The Custom Curriculum Program seeks to help students progress in their academic goals by offering personalized and tailored curriculum and in-person tutoring that’s designed to:
Break down skills into smaller, measurable components.
Meet the student at their level to ensure consistent progress.
Be open to adjustment to match the changing needs of the student.
Generate motivation in students by appealing to their interests.
Raise the confidence of students by putting them in a position of success.
What is ‘Custom Curriculum’?
The process of learning is like stacking blocks: Each new piece of knowledge or skill is a block added to a growing tower. Conversely, each skill is a tower of blocks and can be divided into smaller micro-skills, which act as blocks that keep the tower up, and are necessary for the implementation of the skill.
A potential barrier to the academic progress of students when learning from standard or generalized curriculum is that they might be missing certain micro-skills or ‘blocks’ of a tower, making it difficult to understand standard learning materials and complete assigned tasks in a way that promotes further learning.
The Custom Curriculum Program aims to meet learners at their current level and ensure progress through 4 steps:
1) Setting goals and targets.
We begin by meeting with the learner and key stakeholders to discuss and define the learner's goals. This session is the first ‘block’, and sets the foundation by setting clear and measurable targets and desired outcomes for the learner. We discuss the learner, their learning style and history, current skillset and schedule, learning preferences, and pathways to success.
2) Formulating a progress plan.
With clear goals in place, we create a personalized progress plan tailored to the student's learning style and objectives. This is the step where we break down the discussed skills into smaller components, outlining the steps and strategies needed to reach those targets and providing a structured roadmap for growth and progress.
3) Weekly Tutoring Sessions.
We offer regular weekly tutoring sessions that provide consistent, personalized instruction aligned with the student's progress plan. These sessions can take place once, twice or three times per week, depending on the students needs. Each session focuses on key areas to reinforce learning and address challenges. By maintaining a steady schedule, we ensure continuous engagement and steady advancement toward the student's academic goals.
4) Practice makes perfect.
Each tutoring session is complemented with homework and activities tailored to the student's needs. These practice assignments reinforce the skills taught during our sessions, allowing the learner to apply new knowledge and gain proficiency. Regular practice ensures concepts are mastered and retained, paving the way for academic success.

We can teach virtually any subject as we specialize in breaking down skills and teaching them in a controlled and structured way. Where will these tutoring sessions take place?
We value client comfort and accessibility to our services, so we offer tutoring sessions either in-home or a public space of your choosing (e.g. community centre, library, etc). Let us know where the student learns best!
How often will tutoring sessions take place?
Most clients have tutoring sessions once or twice a week, but this ultimately depends on the needs, preferences, and schedule of the client, We will try our best to work with your schedule!
Can OAP/SSAH funding be used for this program?
Clients can use SSAH funding to fund tutoring fees. At the end of 2 weeks, we will send you an invoice labelled “Tutoring”, which is covered under SSAH. Please let us know if you have any special requests in terms of payment.
Right now, we are accepting students of any age, as long as the content that they want to learn fit within Pre-K to Grade 8 according to the Ontario curriculum. Please let us know if you want us to base lessons or goals off of alternate curriculum.

How do you support students with autism or other special needs?
Our tutoring service is designed specifically for students who need a more customized learning process! We use individualized instruction, visual aids, sensory supports, and positive reinforcement to create an engaging and productive learning environment.
Tutoring sessions are typically 1 hour and 30 minutes long. The duration and structure of tutoring sessions can be adjusted to fit the learners needs and preferences. Let us know how we can accommodate you!

The current rate of the Custom Curriculum Program is $45 per session (1 hour 30 mins). Each session also comes with custom homework and activities that the student can practice on throughout the week to reinforce their skills.
